First new arrival for 2012

The first baby calf this year was born sometime Friday or Saturay. I didn't get out and get a picture of him the same day as we have been busy out and about for the past few days. But, yesterday was so pretty and the heard was in the feeding pasture so I snapped a few pictures.

At first he stayed hidden around the other cows. Then I hollared for him and he came a running. Cute little guy. As I was snapping photos the other cows keep getting closer and closer, either they didn't want me in there with them or they wanted their pictures taken too. So I stood around alittle while longer and snapped a few of them so here's the herd as of yesterday.

The Ladies

"Horny" here she can be rather tempermental.

"Curly Sue" 9 times out of 10 she's having a bad hair day.

I just love her ears. Ain't she pretty?

Off to Jackson...

So I've been doing a lot of scouting for goods we need for our rabbits. Everything from cages to rabbits. So I found this lady on craigslist a few weeks ago and had been in contact with her about the rabbits and the cages she had up for sale. I should kick myself in the rump for not calling a day sooner because we missed out on all the rabbits. However we scored big time on the cages. She was nice enough to hold those cages for us until we could make it over there. On DH's first day off from work I called her and told her we were on our way. It's not like it was 5 minutes down the road. No, I had to find the cages two hours away over in Jackson, Ohio.
This is the water tower in Jackson, Ohio.
Thankfully, it was a beautiful day for a drive. We hopped in the truck and off we went. The scenery was most beautiful. We talked and talked trying to figure out how we was going to get all those cages home. We weren't sure the deminisons of the boxes that were built. As soon as we got in town we scoured to find a UHaul trailer just in case but, we came up empty handed. And to tell you the truth it was a blessing that we did. It just so happened that he built them in an arrangement that fit just perfect in the bed of our truck.

We stood around talking to the farmers like we had known them forever. They taught us a great deal about rabbits, goats, chickens and pot belly pigs while we were there. I hope that I can call her any time in the near future to pick her brain again when ever I need to. She told me to keep in touch and I'm sure that I will do just that.

So anyhow we ended up getting 13 rabbit cages. Ten are 2x2's and three are 30 in. x 30 in. I can't wait to get them mostly full. I think now we have a total of 15 cages. It's time to get to filling them. So the next day DH tried to get Linny to breed Jinny. He did it two days in a row. I hope we will see some babies next month sometime.

13 cages gently used. Should do the trick for a while.
